So Monday was a fluffy flurry of fine flakes making for CHAOS in our illustrious capital. The Laundry was working from home and we watched folks pelting eachother with snowballs for most of the day. I have so say how impressed I was at the Stoke Newington residents for the style and panache with which they completed their snow people. Some on benches, others with a rosy glow and umbrellas. Inspiring stuff.
Daydreaming about all the ways people could have got to work in the snow, if we’d had a team of elves to help make our transport options, I came up with sledgey wedgey things, skis and bungees, slippy shoes and scoopy props. All that was needed was a team of huskeys and I would have been away! People keep saying, ‘well, they cope with it in Russia or Canada or where ever; why can’t we?’ So I thought I’d have a look see what it is they do in these places and this is what I found.
How cool! That’s a way to get to work. Transport for London should get their research and development team to cook up other options. It’s the new routemaster bus, I’m telling you. Other useful suggestions are a mini snow-plough attached to the front of those wheelie suitcases, and replacing the wheels with skis. That would help I reckon!
What other devices can you think of that would have made your day in the snow easier to get around in? Or are you one of these snow-lovers who thinks there’s nothing better than a forced day at home in the warm and dry and the longer we remain unprepared for it, the better!
