My walk to the train station in the morning has to be one of the nicest of any early morning toddles I’ve ever done (definitely beats the chicken feet on the floor, pungeant smells, and general assault course of people and trolleys of fruit that a certain east London Market used to give me every day… oh and even as I say it now I’m getting remeniscent and starry eyed!!)
Only thing is, I’ve been having this wrangle with the lollipop lady that crosses kids down my hill…for a good few months now. She’s there, every day without fail. Obliging the local kids as they dash across the zebra crossing with a reckless abandon, one toe on one of those bloomin retro-skooters, some parents with a learned nonchalance about the way their kid crosses the road, others screaming: ‘Philimeenah!’ ‘Albert!’ ‘Do Slow Down!!’ Anyway… back to the lollipop lady.
Hearts in Atlantis trailer I kept smiling at her every day, without fail. And not once… NOT ONCE (!!) Did she return my politeness. It became my mission, every day to try and grab her attention. I got all hot and bothered about it. Why won’t she look at me?? Acknowledge me???! Am I not good enough for her? Does she think I’ve got a crush on her? What is going on?????!!!!! It got such an obession, that some days it was too much to pass her snub, so I’d get the bus all the 30 seconds down the hill.
Anyway. Since spring has sprung I have had a new found confindence when it comes to Lady Lollipop.

One sunny morning just a week or so ago I said, ‘Good Morning!!!’. Those magic words, they’ve opened up the floodgates of recognition. Every day I get a little nod of the head, or a ‘Mornin’. Wooo hoooo! Life is good and great again. It’s made me think I might say Hello to more people I don’t know, what do you think? People will think I’m a loon? Or love the breaking down on the barriers of the London bubble? Ha.
I thank Spring for all of this, and have been hearing a few spring ditties recently. Please send in any more that you know.
